INDIA PARTICIPATES IN COUNTER TERRORISM MEETING IN BALI

On the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr Kiren Rijiju, Hon Minister of State for Home Affairs, Republic of India visited Indonesia to attend International Meeting on Counter Terrorism on the theme "Countering Cross Border Movement of Terrorism held in Bali on 10 August 2016.

Hon. Mr. Kiren Rijiju arrived in Bali on 9 August 2016 and on the same day he had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr Wiranto, Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs of Republic of Indonesia. During the meeting both sides reviewed all aspects of bilateral cooperation and reviewed defence and security cooperation, which is one of the five pillars of strategic engagement.  Both sides agreed that being a close maritime neighbour and strategic partner they have shared interest in working together to deal with common global challenges, including combating international terrorism. Hon. Mr. Kiren Rijiju extended an invitation to H.E. Mr. Wiranto to visit India at a mutually convenient time, later this year. 

On 10 August, Hon. Mr Kiren Rijiju, attended the International Meeting on Counter-Terrorism on the theme "Countering Cross-Border Movement of Terrorism". During the Ministerial segment he delivered a statement on the theme of the Conference.  Twenty countries and international and regional organization including UN, Interpol and ASEAN participated in the Conference. India, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia were represented at Ministerial level. The International meeting on counter-terrorism discussed views on the participating countries on 'Countering Cross-Border movement of Terrorism’, which is one of the biggest challenges faced today by countries. 

India and Indonesia are committed to work together at countering international terrorism and has a bilateral mechanism to discuss counter-terrorism issues. The last meeting of Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism was held in October 2015.
