World Hindi Day Celebrated in Jakarta (20 January 2018)
Embassy of India, Jakarta celebrated 13th World Hindi Day 2018 (Vishwa Hindi Diwas) at Beacon Academy on 20 January 2018. The event was organized to promote Hindi and to create interest in Hindi language in foreign countries. Apart from official language of Union Government and several provinces of India, Hindi is spoken or understood in countries which have large Indian diaspora such as Fiji, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Nepal and Mauritius. 125 participants from seven schools of Jakarta and nearby areas took part in the event which has competitions such as Hindi Handwriting competition, Hindi Poem Recitation competition, Hindi Essay Writing competition and Hindi Mono Acting competition. The highlight was a short skit in Hindi presented by Indonesian students of Indian Cultural Centre of the Embassy of India.
The event was graced by H.E. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Rawat, Ambassador of India. In his opening remark Ambassador Rawat said that Hindi is widely spoken language in India. Hindi, having been derived from Sanskrit language, has many words which are also used in Bahasa Indonesia, though at times, there is difference in the meaning of the words. Mr. Richard Siddhartha, Director of Beacon Academy, delivered welcoming speech and thanked Embassy of India for choosing Beacon Academy as venue for this event.
The event was organized in collaboration with Beacon Academy Jakarta and was supported by Indonesia Hindi Association, India Club and IndoIndians portal.
